    I saw another version that had "dry the tears from your eyes" as the second last line, and in Holes they have it as follows:

    If only, if only, the woodpecker sighs,
    The bark on the tree was as soft as the skies (was just a little bit softer)
    While the wolf sits below, hungry and lonely
    Howling to the moon,
    If only If only.
